Kindland Food Network

Mallorca Leads 63 Cleveland Restaurant Partners

“Kindness is Served Here” is the sentiment and message behind the Kindland Food Network spearheaded by Mallorca Owner Laurie Torres. A group of 63 Cleveland restaurants across Northeast Ohio have joined as part of the Values-in-Action’s Kindland movement.

“Kindness and restaurants go hand in hand,” says Values-in-Action CEO Stuart Muszynski. “Every step of your dining experience is filled with acts of kindness from the moment you walk in and are greeted with a smile to the time your server thanks you for coming.”

Kindland Food Network Begins

Laurie is on the executive board with the Ohio restaurant and Hospitality Alliance and met with Muszynski to talk about launching the KFN. “I was immediately interested and we thought it would be a great program to start with the independent restaurants in Cleveland”.

“I loved the idea idea of ‘Orange’ you kind and ‘o-ranging kindness in cleveland’ and ‘orange is the new kind’,” she said. “There are so many parts and pieces to the program all that are geared at promoting kindness in the industry and carrying that forward into the community and I am super proud of what we have created.”

Cleveland Independents

Why Kindness? Values-in-Action’s Kindland movement is bringing together communities, businesses, organizations, and schools by recognizing and sharing the acts of kindness around us to inspire a ground swell of positivity and goodness. Kindness is proven to extend lifespan, increase a sense of belonging and connectedness, increase happiness, reduce anxiety and depression and enhance prosocial behavior in the workplace.

Values-in-Action is a Cleveland-based, non-profit organization that empowers students and adults to build communities of kindness, caring and respect through programs that teach, promote, and provide skills and tools to enable individuals to make positive, values-based decisions every day.

In launching the food network, Torres turned to the Cleveland Independents organization, a group of independently owned restaurants throughout the city. The organization is best known for its popular “Restaurant Week” promotion held each March and November.

Cleveland Independents also promotes its members year-round offering video features with member chefs, joint gift card and discount programs on its website – ClevelandIndependents.org.
